About Us

Bill Griffioen started the Griffioen Agency back in 1982. At that time, his office was furnished with a desk of plywood on sawhorses, a folding chair, and a typewriter. He represented one insurance company.

As the industry changed, so did the business. Today, the agency can help customers with business, health, home and car insurance with over 60 different companies.

Bill's background as an educator drives our desire to help you understand your insurance. When you know why you need certain coverages, and you are sure that you have the right limits in place, you make better decisions, and your insurance gives you true peace of mind.

Pronunciation Guide:

We are often asked how do you pronounce “Griffioen.” The name is Dutch. (We have records of the name back to 1529.) And the correct pronunciation is Gri—fyune. (Two syllables, long U.)

The second part sounds like the word “few.” So you might say it right by remembering that there are very “few” people named “Gri—fewn.”

But don’t stress out about it. Just call us by our first names, and we’ll be happy!

Some people also ask us about the “bird thing” in our logo. It’s actually a Griffin, which is a mythical creature with the head and wings of an eagle, and the body of a lion. Of course, we don’t have any at the office . . . but we think it makes a nice logo.
