At the time of this post, the Toledo area has just come out of a two-plus day period where we were advised not to consume our tap water. Of course, there is no such product as "drinking water insurance," but you can certainly prepare yourself for a future time of need.

One easy thing you can do is to buy gallon-sized containers of water at a Dollar Store. Keep them in a cool, dark place and they should easily last you for a year or longer. Then rotate them by drinking the water after a year and buying replacements.

That sure beats racing the rest of your community to the store or waiting in line for a handout somewhere!

For longer-term storage, consider
this system offered by Emergency Essentials. You can store 320 gallons of water in a small footprint. Their kit includes chemical treatments that you can add to the water so it can last up to five years without rotation. They also include a hose (so you can put the water in and out) and the shipping is only $12!!

Preparing for a future water-emergency will give you peace of mind - which is what any good insurance program should do!
